Bloodborne: 10 Pro Tips to Survive the Night of the Hunt

Welcome to Yharnam, Hunter. The city is cursed, the beasts are relentless, and death awaits around every corner. But with the right knowledge, you can carve your path through the nightmare. Whether you're a Souls veteran or a newcomer, these tips will give you the edge you need to survive the hunt.

1. Master the Parry with Your Pistol

Your gun isn't just for damage—it's your best defensive tool. Time your shot just as an enemy begins their attack animation. A successful parry will stagger them, allowing you to perform a Visceral Attack (press R1 when close). This deals massive damage and is crucial against tough enemies like Brick Trolls and even some bosses.

2. Use the Rally System Aggressively

Bloodborne rewards aggression. After taking damage, you'll see a yellow-orange portion of your health bar. Attack enemies immediately to regain that health (the rally system). This encourages you to stay on the offensive rather than retreating. But don't be reckless—know when to back off.

3. Explore Thoroughly to Unlock Shortcuts

Central Yharnam is a maze of locked gates and ladders. Every area is interconnected, and finding shortcuts (like lifting a gate or kicking down a ladder) can greatly reduce backtracking. Spend time exploring—the reward is a much shorter run to the next boss.

4. Level Vitality First

Your health is your most important stat in the early game. Invest in Vitality (HP) until you reach at least 20 points. This gives you more breathing room against the aggressive enemies and bosses. Damage can come from upgrading your weapon later.

5. Upgrade Your Weapon as Soon as Possible

Blood Stone Shards are common in Central Yharnam. Use them at the Hunter's Dream workshop to upgrade your primary weapon. +3 weapon damage makes a huge difference against early enemies. Don't hoard resources—upgrade early and often.

6. Manage Your Blood Vials and Bullets

Healing items (Blood Vials) and Quicksilver Bullets are limited. Farm them from enemies or buy them with echoes. You can also use Blood Bullets (press Up on the D-pad) to sacrifice health for 5 bullets—a great trade in a pinch. Never leave the Dream without maxing your stock.

7. Learn Enemy Patterns—Don't Trade Hits

Bloodborne's combat is fast, but it's not button-mashing. Each enemy has tells and combos. Dodge into attacks (especially forward-left) to reposition behind them. Trading hits is rarely beneficial; instead, wait for openings and punish.

8. Utilize Beast Blood Pellets and Fire Paper

These consumable items can turn the tide. Beast Blood Pellets build up a meter that increases your damage when you attack continuously. Fire Paper adds fire damage, which is effective against many beast-type enemies. Save them for tough fights or bosses.

9. Don't Be Afraid to Summon Help

If you're stuck, use the Beckoning Bell (obtained from the Messenger Bath in the Dream). Spend 1 Insight to ring it, and another player will join your world. Co-op can make boss fights much easier. Alternatively, use the Small Resonant Bell to help others and gain Insight.

10. Embrace Death—Learn from It

You will die many times. Each death is a lesson. Pay attention to what killed you and adjust your strategy. The game's difficulty is part of its charm. As you persist, you'll notice improvement in your reflexes and understanding of the game's systems.

With these tips, you're ready to take on the horrors of Yharnam. Remember: A hunter is never alone, and the night is long. Good hunting!
